NEWCASTLE, NSW – A new car seat for toddlers that has been developed by car manufacturer Graco has been approved by regulators.
The seat has been tested in New Zealand, Germany and the United States and has been certified by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Graco is one of the world’s largest car manufacturers.
It manufactures more than 200,000 new vehicles a year.
The Graco Car Seat Plus is one version of the car seat, designed for babies.
The seat is designed to be adjustable to fit a baby and can be fitted to a wide range of vehicles including small and mid-sized cars, trucks and vans.
“We are delighted to be making this vehicle available in New South Wales and hope it will be adopted by many of our local parents, especially those who are struggling to find a child-friendly seat for their toddler,” said Dr Andrew Jaffa, from Graco’s New South Carolina manufacturing site.
New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian said the approval was a huge step forward.
She said the seat was already available in Australia, Canada and Japan.
“It has already been approved and has passed the National Institute of Health’s safety testing and safety requirements, which means it is safe for use,” she said.
“We believe this will ensure the safety of our children.”
The seat, which has been designed for toddlers ages one to three, is one size fits all.
It can be used with or without a child booster seat or baby bouncer.
A second version of Graco car seats, designed to fit toddlers with bigger heads, was approved last year.
